Chess
Students from Years 1 to 6 have the opportunity to attend private chess tutoring provided by Mr Tony Powell. This runs for an hour, one day per week. They also have the opportunity to participate in the locally run interschool chess tournaments that are held in Terms 2 and 3 as well as an intra-school tournament in Term 4.
Competitions
Throughout the year the school takes part in a variety of competitions. These include the Reader’s Cup Challenge, Regional Maths Tournament, Sunshine Coast Interschool Debating, Chess, Quest Academic challenge, academic tests from the University of NSW and various writing competitions.
Days of excellence
Buddina hosts three to four days of excellence each year to provide high level intellectual challenge to students from Years 1 to 6. Schools from across the region attend.
Debating
Selected students from Years 5 and 6 are given the opportunity to learn the skills required for debating. Students are chosen from the Years 5 and 6 cohort to represent the school in a regional tournament.
Individual curriculum plans
Classroom teachers and specialist teachers work together to provide Individual Curriculum Plans (ICPs) for students who are performing above their current year level in one or more areas of learning.
INSPIRE excellence program
A diverse program offered to students at Buddina State School promoting academic and personal growth, while building resilience and persistence as students interact with like-minded peers.
INSPIRE extension program
This is an enrichment program catering for high achieving students from Prep to Year 6. Students are withdrawn for a session of extended learning in the areas of literacy, numeracy, creativity and inquiry.
Young Academics Program (YAP)
The YAP program is offered by Kawana Waters State College (KWSC) and is designed to provide enrichment opportunities for motivated students in Years 5 and 6 in our region. Young academics will participate in a number of challenging activities along with other like-minded students during their final two years of primary school.

Young Scholars
Young Scholars is offered on campus by Mountain Creek State High School (MCSHS). It is a program for academically talented Year 5 and 6 students to better meet their needs, ensuring they develop intellectually and to their full potential. This program allows bright and highly motivated students to be grouped together with students from other schools so they can be challenged and encouraged by their peers to work hard and continue to succeed in their studies.
