 INSPIRE Excellence Program

A diverse program offered to students at Buddina State School promoting academic and personal growth, while building resilience and persistence as students interact with like-minded peers.

Individual Curriculum Plans

Classroom teachers and specialist teachers work together to provide Individual Curriculum Plans (I.C.Ps) for students who are performing above their current year level in one or more areas of learning.

Enrichakids

This is an enrichment program catering for high achieving students from Prep to Year 6.  Students are withdrawn for a session of extended learning in the areas of literacy, numeracy, creativity and inquiry.

Young Scholars

Young Scholars is offered on campus by Mountain Creek SHS. It is program for academically talented Year 5 and 6 students to better meet their needs, ensuring they develop intellectually and to their full potential. A program that allows bright and highly motivated students to be grouped together with students from other schools so they can be challenged and encouraged by their peers to work hard and continue to succeed in their studies. A program where students work at a higher level and at a faster pace and develop higher order thinking skills.

Robotics

Robotics provides an opportunity for students from years 4 to 6 to work with motorised Lego. Students use problem solving and computer programming skills to design machines that can manoeuvre through obstacle courses.



Competitions

Throughout the year the school takes part in a variety of competitions. These include Reader’s Cup Challenge, Regional Maths Tournament, Sunshine Coast Interschool Debating, Tournament of Minds, Chess, Quest Academic challenge, Academic tests from the University of NSW, Doodle4Google and various writing competitions.

Chess

Students from years 1 to 6 have the opportunity to attend private chess tutoring provided by Mr Tony Powell. This runs for an hour, one day per week. They also have the opportunity to participate in the locally run Interschool Chess Tournaments that are held in terms 2 and 3 as well as an In-school Tournament in term 4

 


Drama Club

A lunchtime activity open to any students from Years 3 to 6. This is a ‘lead-in’ program for the upcoming competition Tournament of Minds (held in term 3). Students participate in drama, speaking and problem-solving activities designed to broaden their thinking and oral speech skills.

Debating

Select students from Years 5 and 6 are given the opportunity to learn the skills required for debating. Students are chosen from the Year 6 cohort to represent the school in a regional tournament.

Days of Excellence

Buddina hosts four Days of Excellence each year to provide high level intellectual challenge to students from Years 1 to 9. Both private and state schools from across the region attend.
